A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS

When our girls were younger, we would save up pop cans as an extra for their allowance.  As they got older, it shifted to the youngest girl who wasn't earning any of her own money yet.

Now my husband and I save the cans and recycle because its a good thing to do, but who can't use an extra couple of dollars in their wallet during these tough economic times.

Today something really nice happened.  When we went to drop off the cans, my husband was pouring them out into the container that measures them and a woman (that we've never met before) came up and gave two bags of her own cans to my husband and then drove away.

It might seem like a small gesture, but I have to say that it made us smile to think of this woman's random act of kindness.  It also made me think about the New Year, with all of the crazy resolutions that I could make.  I decided that I hope to be more like this woman in the coming year and offer such acts of kindness to others.

May you also be blessed with a random act of kindness this year and I wish you a very Happy New Year!  ; )

  1. I love things like that! Last night at dinner, a man came up to our table and said he had a very small amount left on his gift card and gave it to us. It really was only $1.56, but still, it was a nice gesture.
May you also have a Happy New Year!

  3. It's the little things that mean so much to us. How simple it can be to bring a smile to someone's face and joy to their heart. I too would like to be more like the woman at your recycling center.
    Blessings!

  4. Katie, that was nice of him.

    I agree Christine!

So true Pam. I always say that it doesn't cost a thing to smile, but what a difference it might make to someone.

  5. I love random acts of kindness. So great. I was reallly lucky to be asked to help a friend of mine give out food to the homeless just before Christmas. No sermans, no piousness, just good old fashioned quality food, with a smile. Seeing the joy and relief on their faces was reward enough. I shall try and continue to do other random acts throughout the year. Happy New Year :)

  7. What an awesome experience Claire. I've had several occasions to help someone less fortunate and no matter the circumstance, I was the one that was always blessed also.

Thanks J. A., what a great world it would be if everyone did the same.

  10. What a great New Year wish to pass on: Random acts of kindness. Your post brought back memories: When I was a kid, my friends and I used to beachcomb (at Lake Tahoe) for soda pop bottles and cash them in so we could go to the movies!

BTW: Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting.
